Kukui Nut by Kira



1. They were used to make candles.

2. Its English name is "Candlenut."

3. When you burn it, it turns into ash, so you can make a black tattoo or dye for kapa.

4. The Hawaiians used it for medicine by using the sap from the fruit.

5. The Kukui's leaves were used as bandages for swellings and infections.

6. Lamps were made out of stone bowls filled with Kukui nut oil. Twisted kapa were used as wicks.

7. Oil from the kernels were used as decorating and waterproofing surfboards.

8.The hard shell of the nut was polished and was strung on a lei.
